New Features in Backup (v4.0.0.0) - 8 February 2011

Compatibility

Backup v4.0 requires VSA v6.0.1 to v6.3

Backup 4.0 Clients Use ABR10

Backup installs Backup clients using Acronis ABR10. ABR10 provides faster and more reliable backups than previous versions of Acronis.

Note: Acronis ABR10 does not support synthetic full backups of folders and files. You should upgrade only the endpoints that require the enhancements provided with the Kaseya Backup 4.0 release.

Automatic Restores without Secure Zone

The Backup 4.0 client (Acronis ABR10) does not require Secure Zone to perform an Auto Recovery. All machines installed with the ABR10 version of the Backup client display on the Automatic Recovery page. The Secure Zone page no longer allows installation of a Secure Zone on machines using the ABR10 version of the Backup client. Secure Zones are still required for machines using versions of the Backup client earlier than ABR10.

Restrict Backup Sets on the Offsite Server

Backup sets on offsite servers can be restricted to one backup set, regardless of the number of backup sets on the local server. The previous backup set on the offsite server is deleted once the new backup set is safely available offsite. Applies to both full backup sets or synthetic full backups. This configuration:

  • Saves space on the offsite server while providing offsite disaster recovery.
  • Provides granular restores from local servers at the customer site.

Disk-Based Backups of Dynamic and GPT Disks

Backup 4.0 clients (ABR10) support disk-based backups of Dynamic and GPT disks. Previous to ABR10, only partition-based backups were supported for these types of disks. Restoring disk-based backups of Dynamic and GPT disks requires Universal Restore. AutoRecovery and CD Recovery are not supported.
