New Features in Desktop Policy (v3.5.0.0) - 14 January 2013

Module Navigation

The name on the navigation pane has been changed from Desktop Policy and Migration to Desktop Management. Two separately licensed products, Desktop Policy and Desktop Migration, continue to install to the Desktop Management module.

Desktop Policy

Compatibility

Desktop Policy v.3.5 installs or upgrades as a required product with VSA v6.3. Usage is enabled if licensing exists for a previous release of Desktop Policy or by customer support request.

Integration with Discovery

Desktop Policy can optionally include any vPro-enabled machines, without agents, discovered using the Discovery module.

  • After a Discovery scan has detected the vPro-enabled machines on a network, these agentless vPro machines display on the vPro page if the Show Discovered Assets checkbox is checked.
  • A vPro machine does not have to be "promoted to an asset" in Discovery to display on the vPro Management page in Desktop Management.

Agentless Power Control Using Discovery Integration

Desktop Policy can issue power commands to vPro-enabled, agentless machines detected using the Discovery module.

  • vPro-enabled machines detected by Discovery can be powered on—on demand or by schedule—and powered off on demand.
  • The Discovery probe machine used to discovered these vPro-enabled machines serves as the vPro Proxy used to issue power commands to these same machines.

Agentless Power Control by IP Address

Independent of detection by Discovery, a power on command can be sent to a known vPro-enabled machine without an installed agent by specifying an IP address.

  • The command is issued using the Power Management > Power Up Agentless Machine option on the vPro Management page.
  • Since Discovery was not used to detect the vPro-enabled machine, the user must specify an agent machine to serve as the vPro Proxy machine. The vPro Proxy issues the power on command to the vPro-enabled machine.

Rebate Form Generation

A vPro rebate can be automatically generated for eligible machines using the Advanced menu on the vPro page. This was previously available on the Agent > View vPro page in VSA v6.2.
