Compatibility
|
The Endpoint Security 2.3 module requires VSA 6.2 or 6.3.
|
Module Installation
|
After Endpoint Security 2.3 is installed on the VSA, endpoint installers are downloaded from AVG.
- New Endpoint Security 2.3 endpoint installers are based on AVG 2012 SP1 but Endpoint Security continues to support existing AVG 9 endpoints.
- Endpoint installers are based on workstation, server and CPU type: 32bit vs 64bit. The appropriate installer is selected when installing to an endpoint.
- The server endpoint installer contains Exchange installation components.
- The time to download endpoint installers from AVG may vary, based on an approximate 500 MB delivery package.
- A conditional reboot of VSA may be necessary.
|
Installations
|
- Schedule controls have been moved from the main page to the installation confirmation dialog when you click Install.
- A new Connect Client button replaces the Verify Install button. Use the Connect Client to install only the Endpoint Security client service on the endpoint and verify if a supported AVG engine exists on the endpoint.
- An "Upgrade" button has been added, which displays an upgrade installation confirmation dialog if AVG 9 is installed.
- Licensing exceptions are indicated in installation/upgrade dialog boxes.
- User Access Control (UAC) must be disabled prior to install or upgrade of endpoint clients.
|
Exchange Status Page
|
- A "Remove" button has been added to uninstall the Exchange installation.
- A "Cancel Pending Operation" button has been added for canceling the exchange installation.
- Licensing is enforced and a license is needed for every mailbox in use.
- Servers with Exchange can be excluded from using Exchange mailbox protection.
|
Profiles
|
- A single profile can be used to configure both AVG 9 and AVG 2012 endpoints.
- Files can be excluded from a Resident Shield scan using the new "Exclude Resident Shield Files" tab.
- This exclusion list is only active during a Resident Shield Active scan.
- This tab applies only to AVG 2012 Resident Shield endpoints. It is ignored on AVG 9 endpoints.
|
Known Issues
|
- Installing AVG 2012 may reboot the endpoint after the install.
- Upgrading AVG 2012 will reboot the endpoint after the uninstall of the previous Endpoint Security client software, then again after the install of AVG 2012.
Note: Installing and upgrading to AVG 2012 is recommended during off hours to avoid interrupting the user. An option exists to ask the end-user to proceed with the install or upgrade, before continuing with the install.
Warning: AVG 8 endpoints are not supported in Endpoint Security 2.3. Users are strongly recommended to either upgrade endpoints to AVG 9 before upgrading to Endpoint Security 2.3, or uninstalling AVG 8 endpoints entirely, then reinstalling these same endpoints to AVG 2012 endpoints after installing Endpoint Security 2.3.
- AVG 2012 does not register itself in the Windows Security Center.
- AVG has removed the ability to hide the AVG desktop, tray icon and start menu entries. Kaseya will password protect these options with a hotfix prior to General Availability.
