New Features in Mobile Device Management (v1.1.0.0) - 14 January 2013

Compatibility

Mobile Device Management v1.1 requires VSA v6.3. If upgrading to VSA v6.3, and Mobile Device Management is installed, you will be required to upgrade to Mobile Device Management v1.1.

iOS5 Device Feature Profile

A new type of configuration profile, called the iOS5 Device Feature Profile has been added. This profile provides many more settings then the existing iOS Device Feature Profile.

iOS Clear Passcode

Passcodes on managed iOS devices can now be reset. A reset unlocks the device, allowing the user to either use the device with no passcode or to set a new passcode.

  • Clearing the passcode does not change the underlying security profile. If the device is configured to require a passcode, the user is immediately prompted to enter a new one.
  • This feature is available on the Lost Devices screen.

Device Licensing

  • With this release licensing for machines and mobile devices have been consolidated. Mobile Device Management devices now use the same type of license used to license an agent installed on a machine.
  • Previously, the request sent to install the agent app on the mobile device, called the invitation, consumed a license, even if the agent app was not yet installed on the mobile device. With this release, the license is consumed only after the mobile device completes its first audit, confirming that the agent app is installed. This matches machine agent licensing behavior.
  • The Mobile Device Management > System Alerts page has been removed. This page contained a single option that specified the minimum number of unused mobile licenses allowed before a system alert was generated. Since mobile devices now use standard agent licenses, this special system alert for mobile device licenses is no longer necessary.

Google Maps Key No Longer Required

The Google Maps component used on the Locate Multiple Devices and Track a Single Device screens have been upgraded. This means a Google Maps API key is no longer required and references to it, both on the map pages and the system settings screen, have been removed.
