Discovery (R9.2) - 3 November 2015

New Features

To simplify discovery, automatic harvesting of network information has been replaced. Now users create the networks they want to run network Discovery scans on manually. When creating a network manually, the scan range for a new network is still specified automatically by default and can be edited. The fastest way to create a new network is:
- Select the Discovery->Networks->By Agent page.
- Select an agent.
- Click the Scan Now button
- Enter a name for the new network you are scanning.
- Click Scan. The scan range is specified automatically. You can change it later on the Discovery->Networks-> By Networks page.
Networks can also be imported using the System > Import Center. Documentation provides the XML format required.
Customers can now select a subset of networks to be monitored by Network Monitoring (KNM). Integration is turned off by default. A checkbox displays on the Discovery > Networks > By Networks page and can be enabled by Edit dialog.
User interface changes in the Discovery > Networks folder include:
- The 'LAN Watch by Network' page has been renamed the 'By Networks' page.
- The 'LAN Watch by Probe' page has been renamed the 'By Agent' page.
- The 'Discovered Devices - Grid View' page has been renamed the 'Discovered Devices' page.
- The 'Deploy Agent by Address' option was moved from the 'Discovery Devices - Tile View' to the Discovery Devices page.
- The 'Ignore' and 'Stop Ignoring' buttons have been removed from the 'By Network' and 'By Agent' pages. These supported automatic network harvesting.
- The 'Network Agents' tab on the 'By Network' page is being renamed the 'Network Probe' tab. Starting with this release, only one agent can be assigned the probe agent of a network at any one time, so this tab's grid view is being replaced with a form view of the selected probe agent's properties.
- The 'noNetwork' network on the 'By Networks' page has been removed.
One or more 'unnamed' networks were created automatically in prior releases, based on agents installed on those networks. Users were expected to rename these 'unnamed' networks as they used them. After upgrading to 9.2 any 'unnamed' networks that exist will remain on the 'By Network' page. You must delete them manually if you do not wish to use them. A notification message has been added to remind you that 'unnamed' networks exist in the Discovery module. To delete 'unnamed' networks:
- Navigate to the Discovery module.
- Select the Networks > By Network page.
- Select the 'unnamed' network(s) you want to delete.
- Click the Delete button.
Three automatic harvest options were removed from the Discovery > Settings page.
- Enable automatic network harvest
- Interval in minutes for network harvest
- Use only online agents in network harvest
New filtering rules for networks and probe agents have been added to the By Networks page:
- Networks are associated with organizations. If your scope and filtering enable you to see a org, you will see that network in the upper panel.
- Agents are assigned to a machine group. If your scope and filtering enable you to see a probe agent assigned to a network you will see that probe agent in the lower panel.
- If you can see a network but cannot see its probe agent, the probe agent will be identified with an ****** to indicate it exists but is currently hidden from view.
XP SP3 and Vista machines are no longer supported as network probes and domain probes.

Bug Fixes

Discovery	APIMON-1003	Added validation to prevent XP and Vista machines from being used as probe agents, for both domains and networks.
Discovery	APIMON-1040	The 'Days to Keep Unseen Devices' checkbox has been removed from the Edit dialog on the 'By Networks' page.
Discovery	APIMON-24	Network Discovery has been upgraded to the latest version of NMAP.
Discovery	APIMON-263	Fixed an issue that prevented adding an asset manually using a URL.
Discovery	APIMON-270	Fixed a deadlock issue that prevented creating VSA Users via Domain Watch while monitoring a large domain.

Discovery	APIMON-260	Fixed an issue that prevented changing asset promotion settings for networks.

Discovery	APIMON-1030	On the 'By Network' page, a confirmation message now displays when deleting a network: "Warning: Deleting a network deletes all devices discovered by that network." Confirming the action deletes all devices discovered by that network immediately, then deletes the network record.
Discovery	APIMON-1056	Updated a training link at the top of the Overview page.
Discovery	APIMON-1057	Added support for Windows 10 to serve as a network probe.
