Online Backup (v1.1) - 7 September 2011

File Size Limitation Removed

The 8 GB file size limitation for backups has been removed.

List of Files Backed Up in Log File

The Log page displays a link for completed backups. The link lists:

  • The files that have been backed up.
  • The unchanged files that did not require a backup.

Profile Variables

The Backup Profiles page now supports specifying backup folders to include or exclude using profile variables. For example you can choose to backup %MyDocuments% or %LocalApplicationData%.

CPU Throttling

The Backups Profiles > Performance tab now includes CPU throttling. This option limits the percentage of CPU allocated to Online Backup. CPU throttling can be limited to a daily range of hours.

Canceling Backups in Process

In process backups can now be canceled. Previously, a backup could not be canceled once it was started.

Backup Now Option in Portal Access

A Online Backup > Backup Now button displays in Live Connect and Portal Access. (A Portal Access session, similar to a Live Connect session, is started when the end-user double-clicks the agent icon in the system tray or when an end-user logs on remotely to gain Portal Access to the same machine.)

Data Deletion/File Deletion Enhancements

  • A warning message displays when Online Backup functionality is removed from a machine using the Install/Remove page. The message warns that the machine's online backups will be deleted from the cloud. The VSA user must click to confirm the removal of Online Backup functionality from the machine.
  • Online Backup directories can now be deleted. All file objects and subdirectories in the directory are deleted as well.

Restoring to a Different Machine When Original Machine is Still Online

With this release, a backup can now be restored to a different machine without requiring the original machine to be offline. Selecting a machine on the Restore page displays a dialog that lets you select any OS compatible machine.
