You can flag an existing agent as a "Golden Image" from which additional Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) images can be spawned. This enables you to have a single consistent agent that can be updated with routine patch updates or new software installations which are then naturally part of any of its desk top clones. "Golden Image" supports you in better management of VDI environments, by differentiating between cloned images which are an update to the golden image and new virtual machines which have been spawned from it.
Use the following process to manage VDI images:
Install the VSA agent on the "Golden Image' (the virtual machine from which the VDI instances will be cloned).
Note: Do not use the legacy or V switch installing the agent.
From the Agent > Manage Agents page, use the VDI Configuration menu item to flag it in VSA as a Golden Image , and choose whether to match by MAC address or Computer Name. The expectation is that the chosen data point will be different on each VDI image that is spawned from the Golden Image.
Use the Golden Image to create VDI images - when the spawned images check into VSA, the system will check if it "matches" the Golden Image , based on the chosen data point.
If there is a match, it will be treated as an updated image of the gold master and check in to VSA as the existing agent account.
If there is a no match, it will be treated as a cloned machine and a agent account will be created.
